An 11-day showcase of Montenegro. From a mountain that's on UNESCO World Heritage list since the 80s to an isolated wild beach on the southernmost point of Montenegro.

Touchdown at Podgorica Airport. We skip the city entirely and push north straight into the gaping maw of the MoraÄŤa Canyon. The road is carved directly into the vertical limestone cliffs.
After a tactical stop at the 13th-century MoraÄŤa Monastery hidden in the gorge, we turn off the main grid. We navigate a narrow dirt track to establish our first basecamp deep within the Mrtvica Canyon. The evening is spent eating an open-fire dinner and sleeping in an authentic shepherd's hut. Absolute silence.
You wake up to the smell of wood smoke and homemade pancakes prepared by our local camp guide. We hike deep into Mrtvica canyon, following a trail blasted out of the cliff wall by the military decades ago.
By afternoon, we arrive at a 200-year-old stone house, hand-built by the great-grandfather of the woman who still lives there. She serves an appero of homemade mountain cheese and aged Rakija. By dusk, we push north towards Biogradska Gora.
Our host isn't on Google Maps. He prepares the food himself using ancestral methods. Bring an appetite.
The morning is dedicated to Biogradska Gora—one of the last three remaining primeval rainforests in Europe. We hike beneath massive, ancient trees untouched by human logging, circling the glassy glacial lakes hidden in the woods.
After a relaxing afternoon breathing in the dense forest air, we pack up and initiate the evening drive into the highest altitudes of the country: the Durmitor Massif. We settle into our mountain cabins to sleep.
Two full days operating above the clouds. Day 04 is spent hiking the jagged limestone peaks and exploring the mirror-like surface of Black Lake. Drink strong local coffee and eat hearty mountain food with the locals. Sleep under the darkest skies in the Balkans.
Day 05 we tackle the legendary Durmitor Ring—an 85-kilometer loop of single-lane mountain road cutting through some of the most dramatic scenery on earth. From the high alpine, we begin the long descent toward the Adriatic Sea, arriving at the ancient walled city of Kotor.
We wake up in Kotor Bay and immediately tackle the Austro-Hungarian serpentine road—25 harrowing hairpin turns climbing directly out of the water. The views from the top are staggering.
We enter Lovćen National Park and climb the 461 steps to the Njegoš Mausoleum at the peak. Afterward, we descend back to the coast to explore small, authentic coastal towns, avoiding the mainstream tourist traps. By evening, we drive inland toward Skadar Lake.
The Lovćen Serpentines require absolute focus. Buses cannot turn around. Yield to ascending local traffic.
The Climb.
We arrive at Skadar Lake, the largest lake in Southern Europe. We visit tiny, forgotten fisherman villages along the shore before boarding a private wooden boat.
We navigate through endless channels of lilypads, drinking deep red local Vranac wine and eating fresh-caught carp with our captain. The pace of life slows down entirely. We sleep peacefully by the lake.
We push south to the very edge of the country: Ada Bojana, a triangular wild island formed by the Bojana river emptying into the Adriatic sea. En route, we stop for an incredible seafood lunch at a premium coastal restaurant and visit locals along the riverbanks.
We arrive at our wooden stilt cabins built directly over the water. The next morning (Day 09), we wake up and kayak through the wild, untouched branches of the river. The rest of the day is spent completely relaxing, swimming, and soaking in our final Balkan sunset.
A dedicated buffer day to decompress from the mountains. We spend the morning kayaking the salt channels, exploring hidden beaches, and enjoying the slow, reggae-paced lifestyle of the island locals before our final dinner together.
Morning coffee on the river deck. We pack the vehicles one final time and execute a smooth 90-minute transfer back up to Podgorica Airport for your departure flights.

Extensive fieldwork, research, and effort go into tracking these off-the-beaten-path routes and preparing your expedition materials. In the process of building the itinerary, information is sourced from our on-the-ground experience and local network; the nature of remote travel in the Dinaric Alps varies greatly and may not be equally suitable for every individual.
Variables Beyond Our Control:
It must be clarified: Balkanwise has no direct control over third-party information sources, local tourism boards, remote restaurants, local homestays, unpredictable mountain weather, or independent service providers. The full responsibility for the safe and successful execution of the route falls entirely on the client. While we tailor trips closely to your requests, there is no absolute guarantee that every variable will perfectly align with the subjective needs of every traveler. By proceeding, the client waives any claims or demands against Balkanwise regarding the nature of the information, services, or products recommended.

The use of the intelligence provided in the route proposal is the sole and absolute responsibility of the user. Should the provided materials contain inadvertent errors or defects made in good faith, Balkanwise assumes no liability for any error, defect, loss, or damage that may arise from the use of, or inability to use, our recommendations.
Post-Planning Modification Policy:
Once the trip planning and route design are finalized, it is not possible to change the core destination or the dates—even if the trip is canceled due to illness, unforeseen security events, or force majeure. However, for an additional consulting fee, Balkanwise will make reasonable efforts to adapt the route to new dates, provided the general framework of the expedition and previously planned destinations remain intact.

The client strictly undertakes not to transfer the expedition package to any commercial or quasi-commercial entities, nor publish its proprietary contents in any public format.
Binding Agreement:
