Welcome to the Field Ledger. Right now, you are looking at a partially empty desk. It’s just the two of us—Sergej and Laetitia—building Balkanwise entirely from scratch. Between physically mapping out unpaved coordinates in the Dinaric Alps, maintaining the vehicles, and actually writing the code for this website, our time at the keyboard is deeply limited.

We ask for a bit of patience as we organize our archives. We have years of mud-stained notebooks, scribbled coordinates, and analog photos waiting to be digitized. This space will not be a generic travel blog.

Expect raw dispatches from the Accursed Mountains, breakdowns of the gear that actually survives the Balkans, and the exact coordinates of 200-year-old stone homestays that don't exist on Google Maps.

What to Expect Soon

When the Ledger officially goes live, it will serve as our public record of operations. We will be publishing deep dives into localized Pagan traditions, highly tactical guides on navigating forgotten border crossings, and stories of accidentally crashing mountain weddings in Montenegro.

Planning

We believe a true trip is measured by the dirt on your boots and the authentic people you meet. Our goal is to translate that philosophy into every article we post here. Whether you are driving your own rig or riding shotgun in ours, these dispatches will prepare you for the reality of the region.

Stay tuned. We are actively compiling the data. The transmission will resume shortly.
